We have all been there, that moment when you’re talking to someone you just met and the conversation has been great all night long. Somehow the conversation stumbles upon the topic of children, specifically, if they have them or if they don’t.

Suddenly, and before you have a chance to redirect, the conversation has taken a sharp left and is now barreling down the tracks with no brakes, building momentum fast.

Lucky you, just 5 minutes ago, you were thinking to yourself, “Wow, this person really gets me, I don’t want this night to end,” and now look at you, a hostage with the latest iPhone shoved in your face, looking at an endless feed of photos documenting every milestone, sniffle and holiday since the little darlings were born.

Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling, class photos, group photos, silly faces, happy faces, face after face after little face. I think it’s called self preservation or some kind of trauma response that tells my mind to check out for a bit, or else suffer the consequences of photographic overload, that’s a real thing right, isn’t it?
